ABOUT GOSPELWAY

Gospelway Baptist Church is a confessional Baptist congregation in China Grove, North Carolina.

We are ordinary people who know our need of grace and have found our hope in Jesus Christ.

At the heart of our church is a simple conviction: Christ’s promise is true.

When He said, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” He meant it.

We believe real rest is found not in self-improvement or religious performance, but in the finished work of Christ for sinners.

Our mission is to hold out that rest week after week through the preaching of the gospel, the administration of the ordinances, and a church life shaped by grace.

Whether you are weary, curious, struggling, or searching, you are invited to come and hear the good news of what Jesus has done.

WHAT IS A SERVICE LIKE?

We believe the most important moments in the Christian life happen when God gathers His people together.

Our worship is dialogical and shaped by a biblical pattern: God speaks, and we respond.

He calls us into His presence, reminds us of His grace in Christ, teaches us through Scripture, and welcomes us to His Table. In response, we pray, sing, confess our faith, and give thanks. Every part of the service is designed to help you hear the good news of what Christ has done and to respond with faith and joy.

Our services last about 90 minutes. We sing gospel-rich songs, read and preach through books of the Bible, and regularly receive the Lord’s Supper.

WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?

We invite children of all ages to worship with us.

We believe the gathered service is for the whole family, and we love hearing the joyful sounds of little ones learning to sing, pray, and listen alongside the rest of the church.

If you need a quieter space for newborns or toddlers, we provide a room within earshot of the service so you can still participate while caring for your child.

We also offer age-appropriate catechism classes for school-aged children prior to the Sunday service, helping them grow in their understanding of Scripture and the good news of Christ.

WHAT TYPE OF CHURCH IS GOSPELWAY?

Like many historic Baptists, we are a confessional Baptist church.

That simply means we gladly stand in a long line of Christians who have summarized what the Bible teaches in historic confessions of faith. These summaries do not replace Scripture, but help us clearly state what we believe the Bible says.

Our doctrines and distinctives are not new or unique to us. Our Baptist forefathers understood themselves to be heirs of the Protestant Reformation and the logical conclusion to sola Scriptura—that Scripture alone is our final authority for faith and life.

We are rooted in the historic Christian and Baptistic tradition, holding to the great Reformation truths:
Scripture Alone
Grace Alone
Faith Alone
Christ Alone
The Glory of God Alone

WHAT OTHER TIMES DO YOU MEET?

We gather throughout the week in various ways.

OUR VISION

Our mission is why we exist, it is what we are about. Our vision is how we plan to accomplish this mission. We believe that this is played out in three main ways:

If we are going to understand the rest that we have in Christ, we must understand first of all what the gospel is, and what that means to us.

The scripture tells us that God has reconciled His enemies to Himself through Jesus. This means me and you!

Our focus is to daily spread this good news to those around us, so that they may find peace (rest) with God as well

The gospel is not only what centers us, but it is at the center of everything that we do and are.

Continuing His words, Jesus said that His, “yoke is easy”. We believe that He has, not only done the work to reconcile us to God, but His has accomplished our righteousness as well.

This means that we never have to do “church stuff” to gain a better standing with our Father. This allows us to rest in our acceptance with God through Christ.

Gospel means “good news”. When we say we are “gospel-driven” we mean that the central truth of our church is the good news of who Jesus is and what he’s done to save the world.

This is what drives everything that we do! We want everyone to know the rest that we have found in the gospel!

WHY THE NAME GOSPELWAY?

Many of the Puritan and early Baptist writers would use the term “the gospel-way” to explain the proclamation of the gospel that brings us to faith. (Rom. 10:17)

Thomas Boston stated that one can never find rest from their laboring “until they come to embrace the gospel-way of salvation; taking up its everlasting rest in Christ, for wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.”

Spreading the rest of Christ found in the gospel is our mission, and our desire was to convey this, even in the name that we chose to identify our assembly.

OUR ASSOCIATIONS

Along with the 17th century Baptists, we believe it prudent to join with other like-minded Baptist churches in the work of gospel proclamation and for fellowship and support.

We are an autonomous Baptist church which means we are a self-governing body. However, we have chosen to voluntary cooperate with the following organizations.

Grace Reformed Network
Grace Reformed Network

We are a founding member of the Grace Reformed Network.

GRN is an association of confessional churches subscribing to the Second London Confession of 1689 united around the sufficiency of Christ and are committed to the primacy of the local church.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

Most importantly, it means that you're always welcome to come rest with us. Just as we have been accepted by God in Christ, you'll always be accepted at Gospelway.
